Daily fluency practice for people who stutter

Five calm minutes a day, at your own pace.

Breathe, hear it slow, speak, and get gentle feedback. Fluency AI is a practice aid that uses fluency-shaping techniques commonly used in speech-language pathology — for practising on your own or alongside your speech-language pathologist.

Not a cure, not therapy, not a diagnosis — just steady practice.

The loop many people know

Stuttering often comes with a cycle of worry and tension. Calm, regular practice gives you tools to step out of it — gently, one sentence at a time.

  1. 1

    Worry about a word

You feel a tricky moment coming.

  2. 2

    Rush or avoid

Speed up, swap words, or stay quiet.

  3. 3

    Tension builds

Muscles tighten and speech gets harder.

  4. 4

    Worry grows

    Next time feels even bigger.

Practice breaks the loop with tools, not pressure: slowing down, easing into words, and learning that a stutter moment can be met calmly.

The science, in plain language

Fluency shaping

Changing how you speak overall — slower pace, gentle starts, light touches — so smooth speech is easier.

  • Easy onset: Start your voice gently, like a soft sigh, instead of with a hard push.
  • Light contacts: Touch your lips, tongue and teeth together lightly on sounds like p, b, t, d, k.
  • Pause and phrase: Speak in short chunks with natural pauses, taking a breath when you need it.

Stuttering modification

Changing how you handle a stutter moment — with less fear and tension, and more control.

  • Cancellation: After a stuttered word, pause calmly, then say the word again more easily.
  • Pull-outs: During a stuck moment, ease out of it by slowing down and loosening tension.
  • Voluntary stuttering: Stutter on purpose, easily and calmly, to reduce fear and build control.

How brains learn new speech habits

Little and often

Five focused minutes a day beats an hour once a week. Short, regular practice is how new motor patterns stick.

Slow first

We start around 90 words per minute so the new movement is easy, then speed up only when it feels steady.

Feedback

Knowing your pace right after you speak helps your brain adjust. Feedback is about technique, never a grade.

Sleep

Your brain consolidates practice while you sleep. Rest is part of the plan, which is why there's a daily cap.

Transfer

A weekly real-world mission carries skills from practice into ordering coffee, calls and conversations.

Built to become a habit

Make it obvious

A reminder at a time you choose.

Make it easy

Five minutes, one technique, big buttons.

Make it satisfying

Stickers for effort and consistency — never for “perfect” speech.

Habit stacking

Pair practice with something you already do, like morning tea.

Identity votes

Each Training is a vote for “I'm someone who practises.”

Never miss twice

Missed a day? A grace day keeps your streak. Welcome back, not “you lost it.”

How Training works

  1. Step 1

    Breathe

A short guided breath to settle your body before you speak.

  2. Step 2

    Hear it slow

Listen to a calm model voice say the sentence slowly and gently.

  3. Step 3

    Speak

Say it aloud with today's technique. Recording only runs while you tap.

  4. Step 4

    Feedback

See your pace and repetitions, plus a short, kind note from the coach.

  5. Step 5

    Carry forward

Your plan adapts gently, tricky words come back for review, and a mission takes it into real life.

Honest about privacy

Your recording is sent to our server and an AI service for transcription, then discarded. We keep the numbers and your progress, not the audio — except slow-along's short "speak alone" clips, kept privately so only you can listen back, and deletable any time.
